Who is eligible to participate in the PACE Awards program

The Automotive News PACE Awards nominating process is open to OEM suppliers around the world. To be considered for an award:

  • Product Innovations should be within +/- two (2) years of initial vehicle program launch and require an OEM production commitment. 
  • Process, Capital Equipment and Information Technology ("IT") Enabled Process Innovations should have a first production deployment/installation within one to two years of the application date.

Note: +/- two (2) years is the norm, not a hard and fast rule.  There are often very good reasons why an application is outside of this date range, but care should be taken to ensure the judges understand your application timing if it deviates from the norm.

Is the information in my application confidential?

Confidentiality Statement and Truth of Information Release:

"I understand that all the non-publicly available information contained herein shall be used only in connection with the Automotive News PACE Awards Program and the confidential evaluation, judging and program administration process. No release of confidential company data will be made. 

In the event that my company is selected as a Finalist and/or Award Recipient, I acknowledge that I will be able to agree that certain information be disclosed as part of the awards program and other Automotive News PACE Awards Program-related publicity efforts such as, but not limited to, press releases, video recordings, photographs, and magazine and newspaper articles. 

I have marked any sensitive information "Confidential" and understand that it will be kept strictly confidential and will be available to the Automotive News PACE Awards Program judges for evaluation, judging and administrative purposes. The information provided and calculations made herein are accurate, true, and complete, and I understand that these will be relied upon in evaluating the application.”

When do you pay the application fee?

The ideal time to pay the application fee is immediately prior to submitting the entry for judging, since the amount is calculated based on the final entry date. (i.e. Base. or Late)

Site Visits Requiring Extended Travel

Each entrant is asked to name a location for a day long on-site assessment for use if the company is selected as a PACE Award Finalist. The ideal location allows the 2-3 person judging team to interact with team members and key stakeholders to gain first-hand knowledge of the innovation. Every effort is made to accommodate the requested location/date, but site visits are constrained by judges' availability and travel schedules.

If the entrant's requested location or timing cannot be completed within typical cost or scheduling, (e.g. extended distance/duration travel is required for the requested site visit, or the Finalist has a scheduling conflict on the date when the team will be in region, ) then the entrant will be requested by the Director of Judging to choose between conducting the site visit at an alternate time/location, or underwriting an additional cost to be determined at the sole discretion of the PACE program.

Can I submit multiple entries?

Yes.  Traditionally, several companies have made multiple entries and use the PACE Awards program as a means of independently gauging the innovation performance of individual business units.

The on-line application process facilitates multiple entries by offering a Web based mechanism for team editing and reviewing.  The person who enters Application - Part 1 in the system can invite other team members to participate in developing the PACE Award application.   The entire application, including Part-1 is editable, allowing a central resource to manage the application process while the business unit subject matter experts manage the content.

It is up to the applying companies to decide whether and how to coordinate their applications.  In practice, a central coordinator can start the applications for all of the companies' innovation applications and bring in editors/reviewers from the individual business units.  Alternatively, each business unit can initiate individual applications and send invitations to a corporate coordinator to review/edit prior to submission.

What is the size limit on attachments?

The PACE Awards system is an on-line process, accordingly there is a 100 Mb limit of for EACH attachment. (Practical limit on file uploads/downloads)  That being said, there is no limit as to the number of attachments nor their cumulative size..  (i.e. Multiple attachments CAN add up to more than 100Mb total.)  

What are the recommendations for supplemental video materials?

Supported File Formats

Files uploaded in the following formats will be viewable by the judging panel:

  • Audio Visual Interleave (.avi)
  • DivX
  • Moving Pictures Experts Group (.mpg, .mpeg, .m1v, .mp2, .mp3, .mp4, .mpa, .mpe, .mpv2, .m3u)
  •  QuickTime Content (.mov, .qt)
  •  Windows Media Video (.wmv, .wm)
  •  Microsoft Digital Video Recording (.dvr-ms)

Note: Adobe Flash – Flash (.swf) files are viewable in most PC formats, but cannot be viewed by iPads and Macs built after October 2010 without additional software, so is not recommended.

File Size

The maximum size for an individual file is 100Mb

Video Format / Screen Resolution

Uploaded video should be viewable on a typical business class PC/Laptop screen.  “Typical” screen resolutions in 2012 include 1280*800, 1280*764, 1366*768, or 1440*900.  Video resolution between 480-720P is recommended as 1080p will significantly drive up the file size and severely constrain the duration of your video within the 100Mb file size limitations.
